Reconstruction Project

Students were given choice boards and told to choose 1-3 choices on their board.  Three different choice boards were created and given to students based on their learning levels, to ensure differentiation was occuring.  Based on the chocies that were given, students then researched their topics for their projects and submitted some great projects!

Reflection: I would add some more options that involve technology. While I mainly focused on writting to make the project cross-cirricular with English, it would be nice to see more tech involved. Some ideas are the use of FlipGrid, have students create a breakout box, act as if they have traveled to the era and are making a vlog (green screen would be needed).

This was my first time using the Henrico Learner Profile (this is my first year with Henrico). I initially had aimed for just two of the Learn Profile characteristics to start, collaborator and communicator. Since this was a patner based project, the students would have to work together closely and be able to exhange ideas with each other. The students impressed me so much with this, almost all groups worked together well and the few groups that did have problems were able to work together to work them out. Students also managed to communicate with each other about their projects after school hours without my prompting.

As I reflected on the lesson, I realized I had not given my students much credit when it came to the learning profile. As I cirrculated amoungst the different groups, the amount of creativity and critical thinking was amazing. Students were coming up with solutions and ideas to problems and the project thag I never even thought of. For example, one group chose to turn their political cartoon into a stop motion video. Another group reflected on their project and discussed ways that it could be improved with me.

I did not see much of the quality character or global citizen, I invited the staff to come look at the student's projects and they were embarassed since they're not an IB class. I am going to continue to work on this with them because they deserve to feel confident and proud of their work. I did not include present day incorporation into the project, which is something that I will do next time to demonstrate global citizenship.
