Map Project

Students created a map of geographic landmarks in the eight geographic regions using mymaps through Google Maps to plot each location.  Once the landmarks in the national park in each region have been plotted, students then created a podcast that allows listeners to find out why they might want to visit those national parks.

Performance Tasks (GRASPS):
Goal- The president needs your help.  He wants your local podcast station to create a 3-4 minute podcast and interactive map about the eight geographic regions, focusing on the unique physical geography and its influence on where people settled and culture.
Role- You are a local podcast station.   Your team consists of two people with very specific roles.  You will work together to handle the tasks of project manager, script writer, recorder, and podcast editor.
Audience- The target audience is a global audience of podcast listeners who are interested in exploring places, features, and cultures.  These people will determine your level of success.  Make a weak podcast and map?  It won’t become “viral.”
Situation- You must create a podcast and map that meets the topical and conventional needs of the project.
Product-Your 3-4 minute podcast and map will be uploaded to our class blog.
Standards & Criteria- Your podcast and map must: hook and hold an audience’s attention; be specific to the region;  produced for a worldwide viewership.

Here you can look at the maps that the students made in class using Google Maps and listens to the podcasts as well!

Road Trip Through the Regions Maps

Podcasts

Reflection: I would definitley look into all of the different podcast recording apps and software available now. The platform we used worked fairly well, but it's always nice to check out your options! I would also suggect that students have an option to make a vlog through the regioins. If you have use of a green screen at your school, the student can make whichever national park they chose to vlog about it their background and pretend like they're recording there!
